Serendib Joy at fast Club Mark Award

The highlight of Serendib's annual dinner and awards night was the celebration of receiving Club Mark status from the ECB.
They have achieved it in record time for the UK - having only existed for four years.
They have been running a junior section for just two years.
A club spokesman said: "The driving force behind this achievement is Azam Riyard and his love towards the game and great enthusiasm moving the club forward rapidly to make this a success.
"All the speakers made it a point to mention club chairman and head coach Azam Riyard's role in facilitating this prestigious achievement.
"The club's members are mainly Sri Lankan, but it is represented by Afghanistanis, British, Indians and Pakistanis. One of the main supporters is French! It truly is a global club."
All age groups to U15 are represented. The junior team were runners-up in the All Island Street Cricket Tournament.
The chief guest was the deputy high commission of Sri Lanka, accompanied by his wife.

Super Serendib claim
West Sussex Invitation League Cup
A SUPERB batting display from Serendib saw them lift the West Sussex Invitation League Sunday Cup in a thrilling game.
Rain meant the game was reduced to just 30 overs per side but it was Azam Riyard's side who coped better with the change of conditions as they built a monster score.
Fazlan Nizamdeen and Samson Burke both hit 50s while there was also a useful contribution from Silme Ikram as Serendib finished on 192-8 from their allocation.
In reply, Sam Lowther hit a stunning 73 but Burke, Rilwan Razak, Nazoomi Azhar and Ali Khan all took wickets as they held on to win by seven runs.

Kumar Sangakkara visits Tilgate Playing Fields
Home of SERENDIB Cricket Club

Kumar Sangakkara, one of the world’s most recognized cricketers visited Tilgate Playing Fields, Crawley, home of SERENDIB Cricket Club Crawley.
‘Sanga’ as he is popularly known, was greeted and cheered by the large number of cricket fans who turned up at the ground.
Kumar was driven down to Crawley from the Sri Lankan Cricket teams London base at the St Pauls Grange Hotel by club Vice Chairman Nazoomi Azhar.
The evening was organized by none other than the Chairman of the Club Azam Riyard. Azam on interview said ‘I have known Kumar from childhood and we played our entire school cricket together.
This was the least I could do for the club and for the cricket followers in Crawley’.
Club President Deepal Ahangama said ‘I first met Kumar on Sri Lanka’s successful tour to the UK in 2004 when Sri Lanka beat England at the Oval.
He has grown into one of the Great Wicket Keeper / Batsman of not just the modern era but of all time.
He is a very humble human being and is respected by all his fellow professionals as he plays the game Hard but Fair.
It is an honour for SERENDIB CCC to announce that Kumar Sangakkara has agreed to be a Patron of the club.
I would go so far as to say that it is an honour for Crawley to be associated with a truly great sports professional such as Kumar.
I would also like to add that Kumar has been asked to deliver the MCC spirit of cricket Cowdrey Lecture. The first time this is being delivered by a cricketer still playing the game. ’
Kumar said that he is proud to be associated with SERENDIB CCC and that he will visit the Club whenever he is in the UK. He went on to say how heartened he was to see so many youngsters at the club.
SERENDIB CCC was inaugurated in January 2008. Initially a club formed to engage the local Sri Lankan community to play Cricket it very quickly opened its doors to all cricket lovers.
It has an open policy and welcome players of all abilities, Nationalities, Religions, Castes and Creeds.
At present there are 2 adult teams on a Saturday and 1 on a Sunday. In addition to this there are 4 junior teams at U 9, U11, U13 and U15. In the future it is intended to have a Ladies and Disabled team and currently working towards its Club Mark Accreditation.
The Club is the forerunner of the new Last Man Standing Cricket competition. Contact Club Chairman Azam Riyard for details of this innovative cricket competition. Azam is also to be contacted regarding practice days and times and on details of joining the club.
